Prairie Goose Stompers to be featured at Labor Day barbecue

An evening of musical entertainment is in store Sunday night at Florence during the hog roast and barbecue competition that begins at 7 p.m.

Prairie Goose Stompers will get toes tapping and hands clapping with their various renditions of early radio hits, ragtime and bluegrass, western swing, and rock and roll. Prairie Goose Stompers play the music of 20th century America tunes well worth remembering.

Members of the group are Jim Versch of Marion on mandolin, James "Bones" Ownbey of rural Chase County on piano, and new member Bill Hanlon of Reading on cello.

The meal will feature competition- quality barbecue from cooks all over the country as they cook their way to several thousand dollars in prize money.

There is a charge for the meal, but the accompanying open air concert is free. There will be plenty of time following this Labor Day musical event for those in attendance to go to Marion County Lake for the fireworks show.
