Police chief resigns
Florence Police Chief Alvin Scobee submitted a letter of resignation Thursday morning to Florence City Council members.
At a special meeting at city hall, city clerk Darla Gore read Scobee's letter of resignation. No reason was given for his decision to resign from the position.
Scobee was hired at the Aug. 16 Florence city council meeting at a salary of $26,000 per year. He began work in the community a week later.
Gore said for the time being the city has no plans to initiate another search for a police chief. The community will make do with its part-time police officer, Erik King, and coverage by Marion County Sheriff's office.
