Police assist with drug bust

Three officers of the Peabody Police Department took part in a drug bust in Florence Thursday night. Police Chief Jeff Pohlman and officers Bruce Burke and Jim Philpott were part of a force of more than a dozen law enforcement officers who helped execute a search warrant at 604 N. Main.

Charges of possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and methamphetamines were issued against one or more occupants of the house.

Melissa Ramsey and Chris Ramsey were arrested and booked into the Marion County jail.

Law enforcement officers from the sheriff's department and the Hillsboro, Florence, Marion, and Peabody police departments were involved.

Peabody police were busy Tuesday afternoon when an ice storm moved through central Kansas and made U.S.-50 and the overpass north of Peabody impassable.

According to Pohlman, the highway had to be shut down for about three hours because several tractor trailer rigs slid off the road into the ditch or slid across the highway blocking traffic. Traffic was able to move again after KDOT crews treated the highway.

Local police and members of the Marion County Sheriff's Department executed a search at 401 N. Olive, Peabody, Saturday night and found marijuana and drug paraphernalia. According to Pohlman, no arrests have been made at this time, but charges have been filed in district court.

Peabody police arrested a second juvenile in conjunction with the burglary at Legacy Park long-term care facility. Pohlman said charges have been filed and the juveniles are awaiting a court appearance.

Pohlman assisted Marion County Sergeant Jeff Soyez in a county traffic stop within the Peabody city limits. Mark Levering and Sarah Moreno, both of Peabody, were arrested on charges of DUI and obstruction of legal process.
