PMSA gears up for Seattle conference
By KRISTEN HOOPER
Director, Peabody Main Street Association
It's that time of year again — the National Main Street Conference sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This year the conference is being held in Seattle, Wash. The National Main Street Conference is the paramount conference on historical preservation and revitalization. Communities of all sizes attend and benefit from the educational sessions presented. The National Main Street Conference is the only conference providing a combination of economic development, community revitalization, and historic preservation while providing an incredible opportunity for networking.
This year's theme is "building a sustainable future" and will focus on maintaining both the revitalization organization and the community the organization serves. For the National Trust for Historic Preservation "sustainability" isn't a tag. Through the utilization of the theme the conference will highlight smart growth, livability, strong organizations, and strong businesses.
This four-day conference will feature educational sessions addressing issues facing rural downtown districts and sessions ranging in topics from fund raising, organizational development, volunteer recruitment, planning, and marketing. The conference also features exhibitors which offer a wide range of products and services to assist communities with a variety of needs.
This year Peabody Main Street Association is proud to have additional representation from the community and the board. Beth Eldridge, vice president of Peabody Main Street Association board of directors will attend. This will allow more educational sessions to be attended and more knowledge to be brought back to the organization and shared with the community.
The National Main Street Conference will be March 25-28.
