Plant sale is fund-raiser for Florence

Florence PRIDE committee members commandeered Burt Zogleman's back porch a month or so ago to provide an incubation spot for hundreds of teeny-tiny bedding plants.

The plants have done quite well and will be on sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the courtyard of Doyle Creek Mercantile, downtown Florence.

"There will be lots of LITTLE plants," said committee member Scott Zogelman. "Lots of happy little plants and one happy Zogelman mom."

Zogelman noted that some of the bedding plants are perennials, but most are annuals.

"We will also have garden accessories and decorations," he said. "We have been having an annual plant sale on Labor Day weekend and it has always done quite well.

"That time of year, though, we mostly sell house plants. So this year we thought we would add a spring sale and have some bedding plants."

The money is used to buy supplies for the downtown planters.

Zogelman said there also will be home-baked goods for sale.

"We are calling it our B and B sale," he added. "Buns and Blossoms."

Donations to the bake sale are welcome. Contact Sue Klassen seklassen@yahoo.com to sign up or bring baked goods to the Mercantile courtyard first thing Saturday morning.
