Plans underway for Fourth Fest 2004 years ago
The Peabody Fourth Fest Society held its first meeting Jan. 22 to begin preliminary work on the 2004 July Fourth celebration.
The group has secured a carnival for July 2-4 and is working on scheduling a softball tournament for July 3.
An annual contest to design the admission button for the celebration will be open to everyone this year, not just students. Those interested in entering the button design contest should watch the newspaper for more information.
Fourth Fest Society member Kristi Silvernale said the committee spent about $16,000 to put on last year's celebration and expects to spend the same this year.
Set pieces with aerials cost $300 each except the "Battle of New Orleans" which costs $2,000. The committee has room for four new set pieces this year. Silvernale said they will have to be paid for in advance before the group will build them.
The set pieces on hand that are available for people or businesses to sponsor are: American flag, Warrior, star flag, Kansas City Chiefs, Liberty Bell, Jayhawk USA, windmill, Eagle KSU, cross, Sponge Bob, and the Battle of New Orleans.
Anyone interested in helping sponsor a set piece or helping with the celebration can contact Silvernale at 983-2589.
