Pittsburg-Colgan Panthers end Warrior football season

The regional match-up between the PBHS Warriors and the Pittsburg-Colgan Panthers Saturday afternoon ended the season for the Warriors. At an impressive 9-2 record, the 2002 Warrior team wrapped up its season on the home field in front of a huge crowd.
The Pittsburg-Colgan Panthers proved to be too much for the Warriors. The Panthers defeated the home team 48-8, giving the Warriors their second loss of the season. With the 9-2 season finish, the PBHS squad added a regional runner-up plaque to their already impressive list of honors.
The Panthers scored on the Warriors early in the first quarter and two more times before the end of the quarter to make the deficit 21-0.
The second quarter was more of the same although the Warrior defense did get in some quality hits on the Panthers. Matt Kangas, Adam Carroll, Nick Conquest, Brandon Crabtree, Justin Mayfield, Caleb Good, Chris Hamm, and Nolan Hurst were credited with defensive stops.
The Panthers took a huge lead at the half, 41-0.
The Warrior offense struggled in the second half, but did put together a scoring drive late in the game. The drive, starting at the Warrior 20-yard line, put the PBHS team on the board.
Conquest, Hurst, Hamm, Phillips, and Nava each gained ground for the Warriors.
Hurst scored on a 28-yard run with 3:51 left in the game. Good connected with Conquest to give the Warriors the extra two.
The 48-8 loss to the Panthers brings the Warriors 2002 football season to an end.
Hurst carried 14 times for 81 yards and a touchdown. Phillips was three for 11, Nava five for six, and Hamm was eight for four.
Kangas had two sacks and one fumble recovery. Unruh and Crabtree each had a sack.
Kangas led the team with nine tackles. Other team tackles include Mayfield (8), Crabtree, Unruh, and Nava (6 each), Hurst (5), Phillips (4), Carroll, Hamm, Michael Cullinane, and Conquest (3 each), Good and Jones (2 each), and Jonathan Foth and Ryan Gaines (1 each).
