Peterson hits jackpot at Peabody Lanes
Veteran bowler Tim Peterson hit the jackpot Jan. 29 at Peabody Lanes when he hit 10 strikes in three games during the weekly league competition.
Peterson collected $1,334 from the "strike pot" which has been growing at the bowling alley since the early 1990s.
Peabody Lanes owner Mike Berger said the pot is strictly voluntary. "Bowlers who want to be in on it contribute 25 cents a game during league season," he said. "It is just a local deal, a little something extra to compete for. People have come close, but this is the first time anyone has won it."
Berger said the winning bowler has to bowl 10 strikes in three consecutive games and that the bowler must be in a certain position for the strikes to qualify.
There is a second strike pot for the women's league. The winning bowler in that competition must hit eight strikes from specified positions.
Peterson was presented with an oversized mock-up check Thursday night for his winnings at Peabody Lanes. He did not speculate on how he might spend the funds, but said his wife Carol had a few helpful suggestions.
A new strike pot began for the men's league after Peterson got his check.
