Peter Jagt

Peter P. Jagt, 89, died May 29, 2003, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

Jagt, the son of Arendt and Dirkje (Schroeder) Jagt, was born May 3, 1914 in Kompan, Holland. At age six, his family moved to Minnesota. He married Ruby Halbersma, she preceded him in death in 1951.

He moved to California and married Ethel A. Woffenden on Sept. 19, 1954, in Newton. After a short stay in Kansas, he moved back to California where he worked in the construction field and also as a high school custodian. After retiring in 1993, he moved to Peabody where he lived until entering Schowalter Villa in 2001. Jagt was a member of Peabody United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Ethel of Peabody, daughter Joyce Jagt of Highland, Calif., son Arnold of Peabody, sister Jannie Tinklenburg of Springdale, Ark., eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Wayne and James; daughter Alice Jagt; five brothers; four sisters; and his deceased wife Ruby.

The service was held Monday morning with Pastor Bob Priest, retired minister at Peabody United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick.

Memorial funds have been established with Rahoboth Missions of Arizona and Kansas State University, Center for Basic Cancer Research.
