PES will host math, reading night

The upcoming "MARS" night at Peabody Elementary in November has nothing to do with astronomy, but everything to do with helping grade school students make achievements in reading and math.

"MARS" stands for "math and reading success." From 7 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 9, elementary school teachers will lead parents and their children through grade-appropriate math and reading activities.

The purpose of the evening is to help parents learn about ways they can be involved in their child's reading and math education.

Upon arrival at the school, parents will be given a schedule of sessions to attend with their children. The parent and student will attend the student's grade level session.

School officials will create a schedule for parents of multiple children to follow. The schedule will allow parents to attend sessions with each child.

Siblings will attend sessions in art, music, and physical education until the parent is free to attend sessions with them.

Child care will be provided in the library for children younger than grade school age.

PES teachers and staff encourage all parents and students to attend this event. PES Parent-Teacher Organization is co-sponsoring this event.
