PES students send valentines to author
Students in Donna Hanneman's first grade have undertaken an unusual project for Valentine's Day. They have been reading the works of Douglas Wood, author of children's books, and are sending him valentines in appreciation of his writing.
Wood, who resides in Minnesota, wrote "What Moms Can't Do," "What Dads Can't Do," "Grandad's Prayers of the Earth," and "Rabbit in the Moon."
The first graders read all four of the books and each selected a favorite. They wrote notes to Wood in their valentines telling him which book they liked best. They added drawings of their favorite part of the stories.
The valentines will be sent to the author this week and the children are hoping to get a response from him. They also are hoping he likes their cards. "I did my best job," said Nathaniel Ybarra. "I hope he likes it!"
