PES students achieve standard of excellence

Peabody Elementary School achieved the 2004 standard of excellence in fourth grade math on statewide assessments.

The school recently received a certificate of achievement from the Kansas State Board of Education in recognition of its accomplishments.

Attaining the standard of excellence requires having a significant portion of the student body scoring at advanced and exemplary levels.

Standard of excellence schools also must show evidence of moving students out of the lower performance levels on the state assessment.

Statewide, 47 percent of schools reached the standard of excellence in math at grade four, according to the state department of education.

"Attaining the standard of excellence speaks highly of the efforts of the school staff to ensure all students are learning," said Janet Waugh, state board of education chairman.

"This accomplishment is something in which the entire community can take pride," she added.

PES officials are pleased with the performance of students on the state assessments and are quick to credit the efforts of students and faculty.
