PES holds spelling bee

Twenty-one students participated Friday in the Peabody Elementary School spelling bee.

Fifth grade participants were Sarah Chapman, Austin Savage, Hunter Pickens, Seth Topham, Fred Winsor, Rayna Barnes, Jessica Sayers, McKenzie Ensminger, Zach Peterson, and Zachary Preheim.

Students participating from sixth grade were Dusty Hatfield, Brody Kyle, Jacob Smith, Thane Hurst, Mikayla Winter, Wesley Shaw, Laci McCartney, Katie Lewis, Mathew Hiebert, Jordan Brundage, and Amy Wedel.

In order to qualify for the spelling bee students had to receive a top score on a written test given to all fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students.

Winning the PES bee was fifth grader, McKenzie Ensminger. Second place winner was fifth grader, Fred Windsor, and third place winner was, Matthew Hiebert, a sixth grader. Ensminger and Windsor will participate in the Marion County Spelling Bee. Hiebert will serve as the alternate.

The county spelling bee will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 9 at the Marion City Building.
