Pen pal visits elementary students
Fourth graders at Peabody Elementary School recently had the honor of meeting the pen pal they had written to while in the third grade.
As third graders, they wrote to Donna Glover's nephew, 1st Lt. Clint Carman, who lives in Duncan, Okla., and was deployed to Saudi Arabia from January through July.
Lt. Carman shared information about travel, living conditions, and his job during his service.
He told how the weather changed from very cool to very hot and that they had the worst sandstorm in history while he was there. It was impossible to see past about 15 feet while INSIDE a tent.
He also said that showering was a privilege.
His platoon caught a "pet lizard" by putting an apple at the end of a tunnel with a noose to catch the lizard. They named the animal "Slip Knot." He was set free before the soldiers left the area.
