Peabody youth gets first deer

White-tail buck season ended quickly for 13-year old Trevor Foth of Peabody. On the morning of Sept. 23, the first day of rifle hunting for youth in Kansas, Foth got his buck. Trevor and his father were hunting on private land where they had arranged for permission to hunt.

"It was his first deer. He was pretty excited," said his dad, Travis Foth. "He still has a doe tag and will continue hunting, but he got this one fast."

The buck had 11 scoreable points. Trevor's uncle, Cory Foth, is a taxidermist and will mount the buck's head and shoulders for Trevor.

Trevor is the third generation of hunters in his family to participate in the annual Kansas deer season. His grandfather Jerry Foth has been bow hunting for about 40 years, since the state first issued permits in 1965. His father and uncles also enjoy the sport.

However, Trevor is the only one among them to have harvested his quarry this season.
