Peabody water problems addressed
Some residents recently have noticed their drinking water has some taste and odor problems.
"Because of the water plant upgrades in Hillsboro, some changes had to be made in the way they delivered chlorine into the water and we, in turn, had to do things a little differently," said public works director Darren Pickens.
"KDHE has been advising us on this."
Members of the city staff turn the water on at the hydrants and allow it to run at a high force, "flushing" the pipes and valves in the water distribution system.
Pickens also noted that the water from the reservoir is softer than well water that ran through water pipes for decades.
"Some of the hard water deposits have loosened up and caused a little discoloration," he said. "Much of that is also taken care of by flushing the lines."
Pickens and city administrator Jeff Benbrook both encourage residents to contact the city office if they experience a color, taste, or odor problem in their water.
"We don't know about it if people don't tell us," said Pickens. "Flushing the lines in their area can make quite a difference. They should call the city building with their address and we will come out."
