Peabody to host tournament
Peabody Senior Babe Ruth program will be hosting the 11-year-old Cal Ripken State Tournament of Champions July 17-21 at Peabody City Park. Seven teams from other communities and a host team from Peabody will participate.
The theme for this year's tournament is "Baseball in the Park." Local vintage baseball team members also will take part in a brief demonstration of how the game was played during the beginning days.
"We have lots of things planned for this tournament," said Jonathan Richstatter, one of the organizers of the event. "There will be a picnic, a coaches' scrimmage, the players will get a free swim, and we will have fireworks."
Activities will begin July 17 at the park as the teams sign in and then enjoy a picnic together. A skill's competition will start at 6 p.m. followed by the coaches' scrimmage.
Anyone wishing to volunteer to help with the games may contact Richstatter at 983-2841.
A more complete listing of game times, teams, special events, and awards ceremonies will be covered in next week's Peabody Gazette-Bulletin. In the meantime mark your calendars and plan to be at Peabody City Park for some great youth baseball, special events, and fireworks.
