Peabody students nominated for Wendy's Heisman award

Two Peabody-Burns High School students have been nominated for the Wendy's High School Heisman Award.

The nominees are Michael Unruh and Marie Unruh. Similar to the collegiate Heisman recognition, the award honors the nation's top high school seniors who best exemplify a supreme "scholar-citizen-athlete."

Marie and Michael were nominated for this program based on their outstanding accomplishments in sports, excellence in the classroom, and contributions to the community by school staff and coaches.

"We believe it's important to recognize our young people not just for what they do in the classroom or on the field, but their contributions to their communities," said Principal Mary Brown.

The program was created through a partnership between Wendy's, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and Heisman Memorial Trust in 1994.

Marie is the daughter of Doris and Harlin Unruh. Michael is the son of Carrie and Lewis Unruh.
