Peabody sewer project deficiencies addressed
Peabody City Council met Monday and heard that most of the problems on the deficiency list for the sewer project have been satisfactorily addressed. Remaining issues are being reviewed. A new problem arose with a report by Peabody Lakeside Country Club regarding reseeding of the area disturbed by installation of pipe. The order called for buffalo grass to be re-planted, but fescue was used instead.
In other business the council:
— approved a $5.45 credit for a water leak on Elm Street.
— approved an expenditure of $100 to the economic development committee to provide a cook-out for the winners of the block beautification contest.
— gave permission for Delbert Mellott to drill a water well on his property.
— gave final approval to publish a new ordinance to allow sale of cereal malt beverages from 6 a.m. to midnight every day of the week.

Readings indicating the presence of mercury was found. More extensive testing will be done to establish baseline figures before boring into the soil.
— proceeded with formal hearings on the properties at 907 and 909 Vine streets. Council determined the nuisance at 907 Vine Street must be abated by June 12 and debris at 909 Vine Street removed by May 29.
