Peabody s Coneburg Inn reopens under new management
A popular Peabody dining establishment reopened under new management Thanksgiving weekend. The Coneburg Inn, "under the water tower," is open from 4 to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday, and from noon to 2 a.m. on Saturday. The bar and grill will be closed Sundays.
Peabody native Dawn Grosse Setzer and her husband David are joined by John and Amy Fowler of Derby as partners in the new venture. David and John plan to do the cooking while Dawn and Amy wait on customers.
Dawn Setzer said the menu will remain similar to that of the previous manager.
"We will have burgers, steaks, and chicken," she said. "We plan to continue with Mexican food on Wednesday nights and we will have weekend dinner specials.
"We'll also have sandwiches on the menu including the 'Turkey Red' sandwich from Turkey Red Restaurant," she added. "So far that's our best seller."
Setzer said there would be drink specials on weekends as well.
"We hope to offer entertainment regularly," she said. "I hope it will be more than once a month, but it probably won't be weekly — at least not for awhile."
The Setzers and Fowlers hope to showcase a variety of musical groups.
"We will start this Saturday night with Callahan Band," Dawn Setzer said. "It's a Marion County group — Jason Callahan went to school with me. They're good! They play country and rock."
Future groups may be soloists, small groups, rock, country, bluegrass, or folk. "We'll see what's popular, see what the public wants," she said.
There will be a nominal cover charge when they host live entertainment.
The bar and grill also will be available for special events or holiday gatherings. Setzer said guests can order from the menu or if a group wants something special they can make advance arrangements.
Setzer said since their unofficial opening after Thanksgiving the four new managers have stayed busy.
"Lots of the regulars have come back," she said. "People have been very supportive and interested in what we are doing. We really appreciate that."
Coneburg Inn, "under the water tower," still is the place to meet friends and family for an enjoyable evening of good food and entertainment.
