Peabody prepares for Fourth of July celebration

Peabody city workers will be busy the next two weeks putting final touches on the community as it gets ready to host several thousand of its closest friends for the annual Fourth of July celebration.

City administrator Jeff Benbrook has announced the city sprayed for mosquitoes June 14 and will spray again on or about Monday evening.

Street superintendent Ronnie Harms sprayed for weeds and grass in gutters and sidewalks and will do so again before the Fourth, Benbrook said.

Parks and city property will be mowed.

Gutters on Walnut Street from Ninth to Central also will be swept and cleaned before the holiday celebration.

"We are hoping to get as many community service workers as possible," said Benbrook. "We at least want the parade route looking good."

The city is encouraging everyone to mow and trim between now and the Fourth.
