Peabody police will be watching for underage drivers

Peabody Police Chief Jeff Pohlman has announced that a citation was issued this past weekend to a Peabody juvenile who was stopped at 3rd and Olive streets for driving without a valid driver's license. He was accompanied by another juvenile.

"This kid was 14 years old and didn't even have a restricted license," said Pohlman. "Parents — and their children — need to know that we will be stopping underage drivers who are driving illegally.

"A youngster with a restricted license does not have free rein to go wherever he wants and certainly a kid with NO license has no business behind the wheel of a car."

Pohlman said parents need to be aware of what their teens are doing and where they are going if they are using a restricted license.

"Everyone needs to obey the state's Standard Traffic Ordinances," he added. "If you aren't sure what the rules of the road are for underage drivers, contact the police department. We will be happy to spell it out for you and we will explain what the penalties are for not obeying the law."

Pohlman also noted recent police activity in the community.

On Sept. 15 Peabody police officers were dispatched to a domestic battery complaint that began at 207 W. 2nd and ended at 408 N. Olive. Three people were arrested. Roxanne Wallace, James Wallace, and Michael Wallace were taken to Marion County jail and booked for domestic battery. Charges are pending.

Charlene Bram of 401 N. Vine was arrested for failure to appear on a Marion County warrant. The same day John Bram was arrested on a Marion County warrant.

Shelia Deines, 225 W. 2nd, Newton, was arrested in Peabody Sept. 22 on a warrant out of Morris County for failure to appear.

A criminal complaint was filed with the Peabody police department for criminal damage to property at 111 N. Vine. A window in the garage on the property was removed and damaged. Costs were estimated at $90.
