Peabody police make first arrests of 2004 years ago
Late on the night of Jan. 3 and early on the morning of Jan. 4, Peabody police made two appearances at a second-story apartment in downtown Peabody.
They initially were called to break up a domestic dispute. An individual who had attacked a woman with a baseball bat, fled on foot to an apartment at 115 1/2 North Walnut.
When the police arrived the individual ran from the apartment and police officers pursued him on foot, but failed to apprehend him.
The woman was taken to a hospital where she required stitches to close a wound to her head. She later was released.
No arrests were made, but Police Chief Jeff Pohlman said further action will be taken in the case. He intends to file aggravated battery charges against the individual.
Pohlman said that Peabody police officers later returned to the same apartment and executed a search warrant. They were assisted by officers from the Marion County Sheriff's Department.
Three people were arrested and booked into Marion County Jail as a result of that action. Chad Carr, John Schmeling, and Robert Turner all were charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In addition, juveniles were present at the apartment and Turner was charged with six counts of contributing to the delinquency of minors.
