Peabody police investigate burglary
During the early morning hours of Oct. 2, a break-in took place at Baker Furniture and Carpet, 123 N. Walnut. Entry was made through a rear door.
Sixteen dollars in change was taken from the cash register and a Paymaster machine the firm uses to write checks was stolen. The Paymaster was valued at $550.
The following morning a second attempt was made to enter the furniture store. An attempt also was made to break into the American Legion building across the street at 108 N. Walnut.
The burglary and subsequent attempts are under investigation according to Sergeant Bruce Burke with the Peabody Police Department.
Burke reported that last week a Burlington man was observed driving erratically on U.S.-50 and reported to the police. He was arrested and charged with speeding, possession of an open container, and DUI.
Police also are investigating a domestic battery case in the city.
