Peabody police file charges in vandalism cases

During the summer months, Peabody police have taken eight reports of criminal trespass or criminal damage at the Peabody swimming pool.

According to Peabody Police Chief Jeff Pohlman, cases were filed last week in district court against individuals in all but two of those reports. All cases filed so far involve juveniles.

In some cases the fence, pool, or pool equipment were damaged; in some the juveniles involved took an illegal dip in the pool.

Pohlman hopes the remaining two cases will be solved soon.

Pohlman said Peabody officers continue to contact owners of inoperable vehicles. The police currently are canvassing streets west of Walnut for inoperable or improperly tagged vehicles.

"The public has been a lot more aware of the need to tag the vehicles or store them properly," said Pohlman. "In 2002 we had 160 cars on the list, so far this year with half the town about done, we have only 12."
