Peabody meth lab busted Sunday
The Peabody Police Department executed a Marion County search warrant Sunday afternoon at 512 N. Elm in Peabody. The Marion County Sheriff's Department assisted Peabody officers in the execution of the warrant. Also on standby at the scene, in case of fire or injury due to chemicals, were the Peabody Fire Department and the EMS people.
Peabody Police Chief Jeff Pohlman said, "Evidence of an active methamphetamines lab was present at the residence, both in the house and in the garage."
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment was contacted to clean up the lab. "The state requires that the KDHE be contacted for the cleanup due to the hazardous materials used to manufacture methamphetamines," Pohlman said.
"The Peabody Fire Department and the EMS crew also were on the scene," he said. "We are thankful for their dedication to their jobs. The whole process took about six hours and those people are volunteers. They were giving their personal time to this."
Charges of manufacturing a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of methamphetamines, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of precursor chemicals are charges being filed with the Marion County Attorney.
"No arrest has been made at this time, but we are seeking an arrest warrant through Marion County District Court," Pohlman said.
