Peabody mayor to run for county commission slot

Peabody Mayor Randy Dallke has filed to run on the Republican ticket for the Marion County Commission district three position.

Dallke announced his candidacy Monday.

Dallke turned in a petition of 60 signatures to the county clerk's office. He said he chose the petition method of filing so that he could talk to potential constituents and find out their concerns about Marion County.

Dallke said in the group of people he talked to the number one area of interest is the condition of county roads. Two other topics brought to his attention repeatedly are a county landfill (both pro and con) and some of the procedures of the county sheriff's department.

Dallke said he decided to run for a commission seat because he has been frustrated by a lack of communication with the county governing board. He said during his five years serving as both mayor and councilman for the City of Peabody, he rarely had any communication from the commission.

"It has been hard to know what's going on in the county offices," said Dallke. "I want to increase communication between the commission, the cities, and the constituents. If Marion County is going to compete with other counties in the state, we all have to be on the same page."

Dallke said he will keep his mayoral seat until after his run for the commission is decided. An August primary could be necessary if there are other filings for the spot. If not, Dallke will stay onboard with the City of Peabody pending the outcome of the November general election.
