Peabody man takes third in Texas holdem' poker tournament
John Morris of Peabody took third place Feb. 12 in the Park City Round Up Texas Holdem' Tournament in Park City.
Morris began playing around 10:30 a.m. and took third overall for the day, finishing play around 6:30 p.m.
By placing third, Morris also was one of the top 100 to advance to the finals April 17. The winner of the finals will receive paid entry to the World Series of Poker Championship in 2005.
Approximately 2,200 people participated in Saturday's round. For his third place finish for the day, Morris won a metal case filled with clay poker chips.
The Park City Round Up is the largest live poker tourney to date, according to information provided by Morris' wife, Allie.
Rex Jordan, formerly of Peabody, took 11th for the day on Saturday.
