Peabody man's photo to be published
Even people accustomed to stunning Kansas sunsets will have to admit that Paul Britton captured an exceptional one when he pointed his camera at the sky several years ago.
Britton's photograph was a winning entry in a contest sponsored by the International Library of Photography. It will be published in an anthology of amateur photographs and be available at retail book outlets.
Britton, a 1989 graduate of Peabody High School gave the photo to a friend who admired it. It was the friend who entered it in the contest. Britton was unaware it was being considered until he received notification from ILP.
His father Dale said of his son, "Paul is not holding out a lot of hope of winning the grand prize of $40,000. It is an international competition and there are a lot of good amateur photographers out there. Paul was just pleased to have the picture chosen."
The International Library of Photography maintains a Internet site of amateur photographs as well as publishing a hardback book of the selected works. Britton's sunset photo can be viewed at www.picture.com by typing in his first and last name when the command comes on the screen.
Britton, who lives in Derby, was active in photojournalism as a student in high school. He has maintained his interest as an adult and enjoys taking photographs whenever his schedule permits.
