A tea was held Sunday afternoon in the Ann Potter room of Peabody Township Library to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the History Club.

Special recognition was given to Joan Berns who joined the club in 1953 and Laura Slocombe who became a member in 1957.

Peabody Women's History Club was organized in October 1905, with 16 members. Superintendent of the school, W.D. Ross, who also was a history teacher, agreed to lecture on American history to women of the community.

Originally meetings were held in the assembly room of the high school from October to May.

Throughout the years, the club has been a study club, a Federated Women's Club, and lately a social club dedicated to preserving Peabody's history.

Former members attending included Jean Maples and granddaughter, Addyson and Randy and Betty Robinson, all of Wichita, Charles and Joyce DeForest of El Dorado, and Susan Marshall.

Other guests from Peabody were Ed and Ann Slocombe, Pat Jury, Pat (Knust) Henderson, Tom Schmidt, Ross Baker, Marilyn Jones, Bruce Smith, Irvin McPheeters, Pam Lambert, Jim Preheim, Tony Gaines, Jack Kirkpatrick, Jim South, Marvin Wartkentine, and Jodie Rempel and Stephanie.

Hosts for the event were Mary Avery, Lynn Berns, Jean Smith, Pauline McPheeters, Gladys Preheim, Gwen Gaines, Kerri Kirkpatrick, Carmen South, and Thelma Warkentine.
