Peabody girl is pageant finalist

Chelsea Mackey has been chosen as a finalist in the National American Miss Pageant. The pageant, open to girls age four to 16, will be held July 19 and 20 at the Marriott Hotel in Overland Park.

Mackey's activities include swim team, dance (tap, jazz, and ballet), and playing the violin. She also enjoys talking on the phone and hanging out with friends.

The pageant emphasizes the importance of gaining self-confidence, learning new skills, learning good attitudes about competition, and setting and achieving personal goals.

Each year the pageant awards thousands in scholarships and prizes to recognize and assist the development of young women nationwide.

Mackey, who is 14, is the daughter of Don and Glenda Mackey of Peabody.
