Peabody fall cleanup week begins Monday
The semi-annual community cleanup week sponsored by the city will take place next week, from Monday to Saturday. Notices went out with water bills.
A roll-off Dumpster will be manned by Stutzman Refuse employees at the corner of First and Olive streets.
The Dumpster will be in place from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The Dumpster is for residents in the city limits. A paid water bill stub or driver's license is required to show proof of residence.
Curbside pickup will be Friday, although residents may begin putting items at the curb Sunday.
"People must remember the 'three B's' when putting things out for curbside pickup," said city treasurer Stephanie Ax. "It all needs to be bagged, boxed, or bundled. People shouldn't just throw items out loose at the curb and expect the refuse collectors to sort through it or use a shovel to pick it up.
"Any refuse not bagged, boxed, or bundled will not be picked up."
Ax also noted that metal items should be placed at the curb separately because they are picked up by a different truck and crew.
Appliances should be set to the side, easily accessible to the collection workers without having to wade through trash piles to get to them.
"All refrigerated appliances need to be specially tagged for disposal," Ax said. "So people need to contact the city for a special tag.
"Also, all refrigerator and freezer doors should be removed before setting them outside."
Yard waste and demolition debris will not be collected. Yard waste is welcome at the burn pit on South Olive. Demolition and construction debris can be disposed at Marion County Transfer Station at 320 West Santa Fe, Marion. An advance call is necessary before hauling such debris up to the transfer station. The telephone number is 620-382-5655.
A household hazardous waste mobile collection unit will be located near the former dog pound at First and Vine streets from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday to collect old cleaning supplies, solvents, paint, and other hazardous materials.
