Peabody continues to grow

To all Peabody alumni who receive this newsletter compliments of the Peabody Main Street Association, I extend warm greetings from Peabody! Spring is here, flowers are blooming, and community events and activities are keeping us all very busy.

The Farmers' Market and Peabody Historical Society's museum complex are about to kick into gear for the summer season. For those of you who have never been to either, I recommend a trip. The Farmers' Market is a delightful experience, and you get to purchase homemade and homegrown goodies too! Other upcoming events include the Sampler Festival and citywide garage sale Saturday. We hope many of you will visit our booth at the Sampler in Newton and visit our community to find treasures. The first ever Peabody Kite Extravaganza will be held May 15. Youngsters and adults can get together for creative fun with an old hobby that definitely pleases the eye and generates curiosity in the magic of Mother Nature.

The Fourth of July is right around the corner, and for those of you who have warm fuzzy memories about the amazing fireworks and exciting activities happening all over town that weekend, we invite you to make some more this year! The Fourth Celebration Society has an added treat for this year, a carnival!

Peabody Main Street is pleased to have some great accomplishments this year, and look forward to future successes. We recently were notified that Peabody Main Street was nominated as a national Main Street Community, and will be recognized at the National Main streets Conference in Albuquerque, N.M., in May. We are proud of this accomplishment, as it requires meeting a list of standards and criteria set by Kansas Main Street of the Kansas Department of Commerce. This recognition is evidence that the volunteers who continue to give, support, and work their tails off for an important cause, keeping Peabody active and moving forward, are indeed making a difference.

I am proud of the group of dedicated individuals who are determined to bring positive projects, events, plans, and the funds to implement all of the great ideas into our reality. Thank you. There are hours of volunteer labor included in all of these activities, even this newsletter. What would we do without you all? Thank you.

A also am proud of many of the changes taking place in Peabody. Peabody Market continues to surprise us with the changes and addition of services. Jackrabbit Hollow now sells its goods online, so out-of-town shoppers can send gifts to Peabody family and friends easily. Also available online is Peabody" own Grandma" Mustard from the Peabody Sausage House and newspaper subscriptions to our own Peabody Gazette-Bulletin. I suspect more Peabody businesses will have a global presence in the near future. All of their websites are easily found and accessible through the City of Peabody's website, www.peabodyks.com. Any Peabody business is welcome to send links to the Peabody website. Also found online at this site are the menus for all of our restaurants.

The energy in Peabody continues to grow, and with it comes more fabulous results. We invite you all back for a visit, and thank you for your continued eye on and support for your hometown. Until next time, have a great spring!
