Peabody Community Fund offers new grant

The Peabody Community Fund is once again offering grants for local groups or individuals who are interested in putting together a project that will enhance the Peabody community.

In 2006 there were several good applications for the grant. The winner was Peabody Township Library with a plan to enhance the summer reading program.

The community fund board of directors encourages patrons and groups to get involved in the year's grant program. The expected amount is $300 again this year. Applications may be picked up at USD #398 central office, Peabody State Bank, and Peabody Market. Applications are due at USD #398 central office no later than Jan. 19, 2007.

The Peabody Community Fund has been growing slowly since its inception. This past year showed the greatest growth. For the first time since the fund was started, the board was able to offer the grant from the interest on fund money.

Currently the fund has grown to more than $25,000. Fund members will again host a "Ground Hog Day" pancake feed in February to raise additional money.

The Peabody Community Fund was founded with the intent of promoting and enhancing the Peabody community. The foundation was set up as a non-profit organization that could provide a place for patrons to give charitably to the community, this vision is alive and growing and anyone can be a part of it through support and financial contributions.

The current board of directors is comprised of Mary Avery, Lynn Berns, John Carrol, Gary Jones, Gilbert Loewen, Nelson Patton, Gene Schmill, and Warren Slocombe. Questions about the foundation or the current grant application may directed to any board member.
