Peabody City Council considers new building
Peabody City Council heard an initial presentation Monday night from Mel Flaming of Flaming Metal Products for a new building to house the city shop and the Peabody Police Department.
Council members had previously appointed a committee to design a building capable of serving the city's needs. Committee members Gene Schmill, Steve Rose, Darren Pickens, Jeff Pohlman, and Jeff Benbrook met with Flaming to discuss the facility.
The proposal from Flaming will be reviewed by the committee and council. Flaming will identify areas of service and labor that city employees could provide to assist council in its decision to commit funds to the project.
Council heard the clear well and water tower had been cleaned. The city will move on to the next phase of preparation to receive chlorinated water. Water pipes will be flushed and burned beginning the week after Labor Day.
Public works director Darren Pickens told council they would be flushing the lines from 9 a.m. to noon for as many days as necessary. Pickens and council agreed interrupting service during those hours would create the least hardship on the communi-
