Peabody-Burns musicians play music festivals

Peabody-Burns High School band traveled April 12 to Haven High School to participate in the KSHSAA State Large Group Music Festival. The band performed "Ballad and Dance" by Johnnie Vinson, and "Where the Black Hawk Soars" by Robert W. Smith and received a II rating from the judges.

"The students performed their selections very well and should be proud of their achievement. According to the new rating system, they performed excellent," commented director Steven D. Glover.

Twenty-three Peabody-Burns Elementary and Peabody-Burns Junior High music students traveled April 22 to Emporia State University for the Kappa Kappa Psi/Tau Beta Sigma Music Festival. The students performed solos and ensembles for judges for ratings and critiques.

"Our students all performed very well and did a great job of representing our communities," stated Glover.

Sixth grade ratings include band, brass ensemble, Thane Hurst and Brody Kyle (trumpet), Bethanny Loucks (flute), and Nick Morgan (snare drum), all received I ratings. Sarah Hofkamp, (French horn), received a II rating and Caleb Charles (snare drum), III.

Junior high ratings were Jacob Gillet (trumpet), Chris Loucks (clarinet), Julie Wedel (flute), and Traylee Woodruff, (clarinet), all received I ratings. Seth Alstrom (alto saxophone), Paige Barnes (clarinet), Taylor Ensminger (French horn), Trevor Foth and Daulton Teaford, (alto saxophone), Martin Hofkamp and Aaron Topham (baritone saxophone), Kristin McGonigal and Kaitlyn Preheim, (flute), and Danielle Savage (clarinet), all received II rathings.

Four Peabody-Burns High School student musicians traveled Saturday to Concordia to participate in the KSHSAA State Solo and Small Ensemble. Kali Alstrom, clarinet, Ashley Elliott, baritone saxophone, Christopher Milstead and Lindsay Wiebe, flute, performed solos for a judge. The four musicians performed well and all received I ratings.

"These three ladies and one gentleman have worked hard preparing for the festival," stated Glover.

The four PBHS musicians will perform their solos May 11 at the Peabody-Burns Bands Spring Instrumental Music Extravaganza.
