Peabody-Burns FFA members attend annual state convention
Members of Peabody-Burns FFA Chapter attended the state FFA convention May 30-June 2 on the campus of Kansas State University, Manhattan.
Those attending included Derek Benson, Jason Unruh, Jessica Gillet, Naomi Coe, Eric Buller, Stephanie Rempel, Christopher Brooks, Joe Zappone, Bayleigh Clark, Grant Buller, Priscilla Partridge, adviser Sonya Roberts, and sponsor Rickey Roberts.
Members attended sessions and heard from motivational speakers, Andrea Lohr, Dustin Clark, and Rick Rigsby. They also heard retiring addresses of the 2005-06 officer team.
Jessica Gillet was recognized as a top-six finalist for the chapter FFA scrapbook. The focus of her scrapbook followed the theme of the national FFA, "Living to Serve." Included in the book are photos of all chapter activities, news articles, and other information pertaining to chapter members.
Rempel, Clark, and Buller participated in the state FFA choir. They performed two concerts during the convention.
Benson participated in the state job interview career development event and placed fifth overall. His competition involved designing a resume, writing a cover letter, filling out a job application, conducting a personal interview, and writing a follow-up letter.
The highlight of the convention was watching Leann Spinden be installed as the new 2006-07 state FFA vice president in the final session of the convention.
"This is a huge honor for Leann and we are proud of her," said Sonya Roberts, adviser.
Spinden is the second state officer in the history of the Peabody chapter. The first was Bernard Hansen more than 40 years ago.
