Peabody-Burns BOE approves trips, contracts

The board of education of Peabody-Burns Unified School District No. 398 met Sept. 9 with board member Lou Anderson absent.

After reviewing the minutes of the Aug. 12 meeting, Duke Eldridge moved to approve the amended minutes in regard to the board vacancy left by the resignation of Carolyn Koehn.

The amendment reads as follows: "After discussion and when asked, Lou Anderson did not indicate that anyone had expressed an interest in filling the vacancy. Lou Anderson moved to leave Position Six vacant until the general election in April to fill the unexpired term of Carolyn Koehn." Doe Ann Hague seconded the motion which carried 4-1, with Duke Eldridge voting against the motion.

In other business:

— approved a $361 expenditure for a trip to Colorado Springs for FCCLA in the spring and approved the cost of expenses for FFA adviser Sonya Roberts to attend the national convention in Louisville

— approved emergency substitute certificates for Tonya Bartel, Rose Davidson, Julia Ensminger, Eileen Margaret Hiebert, Paula Schroeder, Douglas Tayler, and Verna Unruh

— approved a timeline for the superintendent's evaluation and contract offering

— changed the location of the October board meeting to Arleta Koehn's

— approved supplemental contracts for Richard Sullivan as a Rule 10 assistant high school football coach for $1 a year and for Anne Leppke as Scholar's Bowl sponsor. Both contracts are for the 2002-2003 school year

— heard a request from Mary Avery and Joanna Brazil for letters of support for a strategic development plan for Peabody. The board approved $50 in support of the grant.
