PBHS volleyball finishes week of action

Peabody-Burns High School Warrior volleyball team had a full week of action with a trip to Bennington Sept. 6 and a Saturday tournament at Solomon.
The Warrior squad took both matches at Bennington, downing Ell-Saline and Bennington. The Lady Warriors were defeated in the first round of the Solomon tournament by Solomon. They bounced back to defeat Tescott in the second round and Lincoln in the third round. The team fell in the semi-finals to Quivera Heights, but defeated Elyria in the third-place match.
In game one of the Ell-Saline match, Becky Morris paced the team with five kills. PBHS took the game, 31-29. In game two, the Lady Warriors played behind most of the game and fell 25-19. Ell-Saline jumped ahead early in game three, but Warrior Traci Windsor served two aces and recorded four points to get PBHS back in the game. Hannah Redger served for points to give the Warriors a 13-8 lead. Morris and Jessica Gillet tacked on three more service points each, but Ell-Saline fought back to within one, 24-23. Redger then ended the game and match with a kill.
In game one of the Bennington match, PBHS played a close one, winning 27-25 on a Windsor kill. In game two, Kali Alstrom built a five-point lead followed by Windsor recording four kills. Bennington came back late in the game and scored seven straight to defeat the Warriors 25-23. In game three, Alstrom had 17 assists to lead the team to a victory. Morris had a back row attack for a kill to end the match, 25-21.
At the Solomon tournament, the Lady Warriors struggled in the first match against Solomon and were defeated in two games, 25-14 and 25-22.
Match two against Tescott was all Lady Warriors with good net play and solid hits from Jessi Hilliard, Windsor, and Kara Gridley. The team took match two, 25-12 and 25-21. Match three was another good one for PBHS. Kali Alstrom put together six consecutive serves and Gridley had several big kills to win the match, 25-20 and 25-17.
Match four with Quivera Heights was all for the opponent as PBHS was defeated, 25-6 and 25-11.
Match five had some good serving from Alstrom and Windsor with Gillet serving seven straight in game two of the match.
Gridley came up with the kill to end the match and the Lady Warriors took third place.

Junior high
The Lady Tomahawks traveled Thursday to Sedgwick for their season opener. They built a strong lead in game one, 13-4, but the Cardinals came back to take the lead and the game, 25-22. PBJHS lost game two as well, 25-17.
The team served 73 percent in the match and Julie Wedel connected on 14-15 serves.
