PBHS students excel at leadership conference

The Peabody-Burns Chapter of Business Professionals of America attended the state BPA Leadership Conference in Salina Feb. 23 and all of the participating 14 students placed in the top 10 of their events.

BPA is a vocational business organization whose mission is "to contribute to the preparation of a world-class work force through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills."

This is only the second year PBHS has participated in the conference. State winners qualify to compete at the National Leadership Conference in Chicago May 7-11.

Two first place positions were taken by PBHS students — Blythe Weir in computer-aided graphics and Michael Unruh in medical office procedures.

Other students and their rankings are as follows: computer-aided graphics, Elizabeth Brown, 5th; Cisco networking Brennan Commerford, 2nd; Phillip Unruh, 3rd; and Nick Conquest, 4th.

Desktop publishing, Duane Jones, 4th; international business, Phillip Unruh, 5th; Entrepreneurship, Tommy Phillips, 2nd; fundamental accounting, Mallory Whitney, 2nd; spreadsheet applications and analysis, Jay Gfeller, 2nd; verbal prepared I, Rachel Berns, 2nd.

Small business management team comprised of Jay Gfeller, Rachel Unruh, Mallory Whitney, and Andrea Jones, 2nd; administrative support team, Elizabeth Brown, Marissa Phillips, Michael Unruh, and Blythe Weir, 4th.
