PBHS BPA students compete at New York
Nine members of the Peabody-Burns High School BPA chapter participated May 7-13 in the National Leadership Conference of Business Professionals of America in New York, N.Y.
Approximately 3,500 high school, 180 middle school, and 750 college students from throughout the U.S. participated in the 41st conference.
Students from PBHS toured the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Empire State Building, and attended a Broadway musical during the week.
Laura Hoffman was approved to run for a national officer position.
Assisting her with the campaign were Martin Hofkamp, Ethan Riggs, Julie Wedel, and Traylee Woodruff.
They campaigned by distributing flyers, singing campaign rally songs, and participating in a state caucus meeting to determine the national officer team.
Six PBHS students received awards for national competition. Joseph Brunner was fifth in advanced accounting and Seth Methvin received seventh in prepared speech.
Four seniors — Danyel Kallansrud, Laura Hoffmann, Joseph Brunner, and Derrick Simmonds received the National Ambassador Torch Award and were honored at the opening general session. They received their awards in a separate presentation.
Others competing in national contests were Martin Hofkamp, human resource management; Julie Wedel, keyboarding; Traylee Woodruff, medical office procedures; Ethan Riggs, administrative support; and Laura Hoffman, graphic design.
In order to attend the national conference the students engaged in numerous fund-raising activities and were helped by USD 398, Reliance Energy, Flaming Metal Systems, Peabody State Bank, Drs. Grant McKinney and Simmonds, Bob and Peggy Phillips, Trent and Christina Brunner, and a few anonymous donors.
