PBHS boys finish up regular season play

The Peabody-Burns High School boys basketball squad played two home games this past week to finish up their regular season.

The Warriors took a win Tuesday against Remington, 60-43, but were defeated Friday by Canton-Galva, 47-44. The Warriors ended their season, 11-9 overall, and were slated to begin sub-state play with a home matchup Tuesday night.

Remington

The Remington game started with both teams playing even on offense early. The Warriors were down by seven at the two minute mark, but came back to within three at the end of one, 16-13. Five Warriors put up points in the quarter, led by Isaac Good with four. Michael Unruh posted three with Caleb Good, Job Hilliard, and Jason Carroll each adding one basket.

The game remained tight in the second period with both teams playing tough on both sides of the ball. The PBHS team was down by one at the half, 26-25. Carroll led the quarter scoring with five. I. Good had three while Unruh and Hilliard each chipped in two.

The Warrior offense was steady in the third period, helped out by good defensive pressure on the ball. The PBHS squad took the lead at the five-minute mark in the third and continued to build a lead throughout the contest. At the end of the third quarter, the Warrior's led by four points, 35-31. Unruh had four while C. Good, Mario Nava, and Hilliard each added a basket.

The Warriors put the game away early in the fourth period with an offensive explosion that netted 25 points in the period. The Warriors took the win, 60-43, over the Broncos. C. Good led the PBHS squad with 12. Hilliard had four. Carroll added three. Unruh, Adam Carroll, and Derrick Simmonds each added one basket.

Canton-Galva

Meeting the Canton-Galva Eagles Friday, the Warrior defense came out strong and held the Eagles to six. The offense started fast and built a good lead. J. Carroll shot a last-second three to make the lead, 15-6, at the end of one. I. Good led the quarter scoring with six. J. Carroll had five, while Unruh and Nava had two apiece.

The Warrior offense was cut in half during the second period. The defense remained tough, holding the Eagles to nine. The lead was seven at the half, 22-15. C. Good managed four in the period with I. Good putting in three.

The PBHS squad scored 10 in the third period, but the Eagles began a steady run at the home team. The lead was cut once again and the Warriors were up by eight at the end of the third, 32-26.

The Warriors felt the Eagle's pressure in the fourth period. The score was tied at 38 with four minutes left in the contest. The Warriors relinquished the lead with less than two minutes to go and could never regain control of the contest. The Warriors lost in a close finish, 47-44.

Second half scoring was led by C. Good with 10. I. Good put in four, J. Carroll and Unruh had three each, and Nava chipped in with two.
