PBES students collect 'Pennies for the Pantry'

The students, faculty, and staff of Peabody-Burns Elementary have been collecting "Pennies for the Pantry," to benefit Burns Food Pantry.

The pantry services more than 127 families and 500 individuals in the communities of Burns, Potwin, Peabody, Florence, Whitewater, and Cassoday.

This past month, the school collected $261.69.

Each month, a group of sixth graders spend an hour and a half or so helping the food pantry by unloading the truck and stocking shelves.

Elementary school principal Ken Parry said, "I believe that it is important for my students to learn to help others and that it is part of our mission to instill a sense of community service in them."
