Patrick Wood
Patrick William Wood died Feb. 12, 2003, in Peabody. He was 47 years old.
Patrick was born Feb. 24, 1955, at Ft. Bragg, N.C., to Richard and Patsy (Gibbs) Wood Sr. Both preceded him in death.
He was a 1974 graduate of Peabody High School. He was an actor, a nurses aid, and a restaurant employee.
During his high school years he developed an interest in theater. As an adult he performed at the Marple Theater in Wichita, as well as in many productions in Peabody.
An enthusiastic supporter of the Peabody Historical Society, he combined his love of acting and an avid interest in Peabody history to help with fund raising events sponsored by the society. He researched and developed characters for his participation in their "Candlelight Tours" and "Cemetery Tours." He had a part in each of them.
In November 2002, the historical society dedicated its tour production, "Christmas Through the Decades" to Wood. Because of his illness, he was only able to have a small part in the production, but fulfilled his obligation for each tour group. It was his last performance.
Wood also was a member of the cast in the dinner theater murder mysteries held at the historic Morgan House.
He was a founder of the Peabody Sunflower Players, a local group of theater enthusiasts who performed melodramas.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Rick and his maternal grandparents Albert and Ruby Gibbs of Peabody, who raised him after the death of his mother.
He is survived by a sister, Marilyn Wood of Shawnee, and a sister-in-law, Myrna Wood of Peabody, cousins, and a host of friends.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Baker Funeral Home, Peabody, with the Rev. Jim Pohlman officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
