Parmley appointed to city council
Florence Mayor Jeanie Meirowsky requested a motion March 4 to appoint Tim Parmley as the replacement in Ward 2 for Barbara O'Dell, who resigned from the council last month. During discussion of the request, Councilman Larry Timm indicated he would prefer waiting until after the general election in April to let that council make the selection for the replacement. On a motion by Dan Ludwig, with second by Bev Baldwin, the appointment was approved two to one with Timm voting against it.
Parmley was sworn in and took his place at the council meeting.
Randy Dallke of Atmos Energy was present to encourage the city to adopt a franchise fee on gas usage as do the other cities in Marion County. Dallke said a five percent franchise fee could net the city $9,000 to $10,000 per year in extra revenue.
The council listened to the proposal and tabled a decision until a future meeting.
Dean Towne was present to request a one time waiver of his water bill due to a leak. The request was approved.
Patti Williams reported that the Florence Ambulance Department had accepted a bid of $300 from Rod Jantz of Burns for one of the overhead doors from the ambulance building. The doors were replaced in January.
Mayor Meirowsky signed a fair housing proclamation. April is "Fair Housing Month."
The council approved a Blue Cross/Blue Shield increase of $29.53 per month for city employees.
Also approved was the purchase of two computers from funds remaining in the city building fund.
The next meeting of the council will be at 4:30 p.m. March 17 in the city building.
