Parkside Homes: Railroad memories shared

Monday morning was whistles, lanterns, and railroad tracks as elders shared their railroad memories with each other, guided by Dave Clark.

Elder council met after lunch to review the newly enlarged October events calendar. New events they discovered included the 2 p.m. book club, frequent surrey rides, Wednesday morning donut shop, and a car show coffee Oct. 21. There also is a new men's club and women may join a Red Hat Club.

A large group enjoyed a music appreciation class Tuesday morning. Parkside dominoes group played a number of games during the afternoon. Ike Thiessen and Rosalie Suderman were high scorers. Cookies and coffee also were enjoyed. Rafael Noriega brought a peaceful evening of praise and worship with his songs and guitar.

We enjoyed the smell and taste of freshly made donut holes Wednesday morning as we reminisced about the tasty things Grandma made in her kitchen. Pastor Roy Keller led the afternoon Bible class. Chocolate ice cream was the treat of the afternoon.

Some residents enjoyed decorating real pumpkins Thursday for the fall season. We had a large group for our weekly hymn sing. During the afternoon we gathered to watch "Mayberry" videos. Our favorite was "Barney's New Car."

A lively basketball game was held Friday morning. We cheered for each player making baskets. We reminisced about the mascots of our former high school teams during a short half-time. We enjoyed drinks together — fresh cold water, of course.

Bingo games were called Friday afternoon by Mariann Unruh. Each player received a banana for participating.

Gene Magnuson taught the morning Sunday school class. First Southern Baptist Church brought afternoon worship service.
