Parenting seminar is Feb. 26 years ago

E. Kent Hayes will share "The Thirteen Secrets to Raising Your Child to be successful in a Complicated World," and other parenting tips during a seminar at 6 p.m. Feb. 26 at Marion City Building.

Hayes is CEO of Family Advocates International, an organization created to manage the business activities with parenting workshops, seminars, speeches, and books.

He is the author of three books, including "Why Good Parents Have Bad Kids." Two of his books were made into television movies and his books have been published in several languages and run in condensed versions in various magazines.

Hayes has appeared on several national television shows including CNN, NBC's Today Show, the Phil Donahue Show, the Oprah Winfrey Show, and Larry King.

As co-director of the Menninger Youth Program of Menninger Clinic, he directed a nationwide network of family care homes for neglected, abused, abandoned, and delinquent children. He was executive director of The Villages, which he founded with Dr. Karl Menninger in Topeka.

His experience in working with deprived youth spans a period of more than 27 years. He has served as chief probation officer of the Shawnee County Juvenile Court and as superintendent of the Boys' Training School in Kearney, Neb.

The seminar, which is free to all Marion County residents, will begin with a light supper. Child care will be provided. Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling Marion Chamber of Commerce, 382-3425.
