Opal Strong

Opal M. Strong, 89, of Great Bend, died Feb. 4, 2007.

Born April 18, 1917, at Eureka, she was the daughter of William and Emma (Knott) Wilson.

On Jan. 23, 1937, she married Truman Strong at Cottonwood Falls.

She was a homemaker, formerly owned her own restaurant in El Dorado, and managed a motel in Florence. She was a member of Wonsevu Christian Church, where she was the church secretary and active in the ladies aid society.

She has lived in Great Bend for the past four years.

She was preceded in death by a son, William Strong; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Truman of Great Bend; daughter, Neva Hayes of Castle Rock, Colo.; son, Truman Strong of Farmersville, Texas; granddaughter and caregivers, Debra and Don Mitchell of Hoisington; brother, Darrell Wilson of Missouri; sister, Betty DeMay of California; four grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Nicholson-Ricks Funeral Home, Hoisington, with the Rev. Don Paden officiating.

Burial will be in Walnut Valley Memorial Park, El Dorado.

A memorial fund has been established with the American Diabetes Association.
