Olympic torch to pass through Peabody
The torch of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games is set to pass through Marion County early Jan. 11 on a Union Pacific Railroad car specially designed to transport the flame.
The railroad car bearing the torch will leave Topeka at 3:55 a.m. on Jan. 11. It will pass through Herington, Marion, and Peabody before coming to Wichita at 6:55 a.m., according to a Union Pacific schedule.
Torchbearers will carry the torch around Wichita before it leaves at 8:50 a.m.
In all, the train will carry the torch more than 3,200 miles across 11 states before reaching Salt Lake City for the Winter games.
