OB services available at St. Luke Hospital
A maternity clinic will open in September at St. Luke Hospital.
Dr. Kathryn Hayes and Dr. Paul Ullom-Minnich will offer prenatal care to expectant mothers.
The two board-certified, family physicians currently practice in Moundridge.
The maternity clinic will be located in the clinic building, south of the hospital. Patients will be able to obtain all blood work and testing through the St. Luke Hospital lab and deliver at Mercy Hospital, Moundridge.
The doctors decided to provide these services because St. Luke Hospital no longer offered obstetrics services.
"I'm looking forward to providing this service in my hometown area," Hayes said. She is a 1983 graduate of Marion High School.
The doctors have worked at Partners in Family Care, a family practice clinic. Hayes attended Bethel College and Ullom-Minnich graduated from McPherson College. Both doctors graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed their residencies at Via Christi Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus, Wichita.
"Pregnancy can be an uncertain time," Ullom-Minnich said, "and I can remember as a father how it was important to have trust in both the doctor and facility. Our goal in starting this clinic is to provide a familiar setting for young families to receive state-of-the-art maternity care. We want people to feel comfortable."
Mercy Hospital of Moundridge is a privately-owned, church-related, non-profit hospital. It was remodeled in 2004, and has two delivery suites. Each delivery suite has a private bath and whirlpool tub. Sleeper sofas are available for family members.
"Mercy Hospital is able to provide a full range of obstetric care," Hayes said. "During labor, they have one-on-one, individualized nursing and anesthetists who can provide epidural pain relief upon request."
Appointments for the maternity clinic can be made by calling St. Luke Hospital at (620) 382-2177.
